Forget crowded restaurants and overpriced bouquets. For a truly unforgettable date, look no further than your own backyard oasis: [the hot tub](https://www.hydropoolnorthwest.co.uk/hot-tubs). Warm inviting, bubbling water, the soft glow of moonlight, and quiet conversation over a sophisticated [cocktail](https://blog.hydropoolnorthwest.co.uk/6-summer-cocktails-perfect-for-a-cabin-bbq). Intrigued? Let's dive into the art of the hot tub date. ## ![A romantic hot tub set up with nearby firepit and tv.](https://blog.hydropoolnorthwest.co.uk/hs-fs/hubfs/Moonlight-and-Martinis-The-Art-of-the-Hot-Tub-Date2.jpg?width=281&height=499&name=Moonlight-and-Martinis-The-Art-of-the-Hot-Tub-Date2.jpg) ## Set the Stage for Your Hot Tub Date Ambiance is everything. Transform your [hot tub](https://www.hydropoolnorthwest.co.uk/hot-tubs) area with a few key tweaks like setting up lighting, using scented oils or salts, finding the perfect playlist, making sure you are away from prying eyes, and prepping nibbles and drinks. Lighting: Soft, warm lighting is key. Under no circumstances can cold bright-white lights be sexy. Think pillar candles, fairy lights, or even floating pool lights for a magical touch. If your hot tub has lighting inside the tub, consider setting them to pink, red, or purple lights. Don't over do the lights, you want to still be able to stargaze. Aromatherapy: Enhance the mood with calming scents like lavender or eucalyptus. Essential oils in a diffuser outside the hot tub or hot tub friendly bath salts work wonders. Music: Create a playlist of your favorite love songs or instrumental melodies to set a relaxing vibe. Searching for background jazz playlists can find you some really moody mixes.  Privacy: If your hot tub isn't already secluded, consider adding privacy screens or curtains to create an intimate space. You probably don’t want your neighbours peeking in on your hot tub cuddles.   ## Martinis and More No hot tub date is complete without delicious refreshments. Here are some ideas on what to serve during your hot tub date: Drinks: Shake up some [classic martinis](https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/martini) or get creative with [flavoured variations](https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/collections/valentines_day_cocktails). Be careful mixing alcohol and hot water, as it can speed up the effects of alcohol. Keep it to a one martini minimum or a few more if you are drinking low-ABV drinks. Snacks: Keep it light and easy with finger foods like cheese and crackers, fruit skewers, or chocolate-covered strawberries. These can be arranged artfully on a floating platter or hot tub mounted tray.  Hydration: Don't forget to stay hydrated with plenty of water or sparkling water. Fancy it up by adding lemon, cucumber, mint, or all three!   ## Beyond the Bubbles - More Activities for your Hot Tub Date Stargazing: Take advantage of the night sky and try to spot constellations or shooting stars. Not only is this romantic, but it’s also really relaxing.  Conversation Starters: Prepare some fun or flirty questions to spark conversation. Deeper conversations can lead to positive relationship revelations. If all other words fail, tell your date what makes them special to you.  Waterproof Cards: For the competitive couples, get a deck of waterproof cards and play over a blow up tray.  Private Screening: If you want to go all out, set up a projector and movie screen. Play a romcom or something you meant to catch at the cinema.  ![A bucket of champagne sits beside a hot tub ready for the perfect hot tub date.](https://blog.hydropoolnorthwest.co.uk/hs-fs/hubfs/Moonlight-and-Martinis-The-Art-of-the-Hot-Tub-Date3.jpg?width=3488&height=3078&name=Moonlight-and-Martinis-The-Art-of-the-Hot-Tub-Date3.jpg) ## Hot Tub Date Etiquette Cleanliness: Make sure your hot tub is clean and the water is balanced before your date. You don’t want any debris floating around ruining the vibe. Temperature: Set the temperature to a comfortable level for both of you, make sure you ask your partner! Respect: Be mindful of your date's comfort level and preferences. Whether you’ve been married for years, or are on a first date basis- don’t assume anything! While you may privately use the hot tub commando, that doesn’t mean your date is ready for that!!
