We all like to get a deal when it comes to buying our essentials, finding the best price or buying in bulk can reduce our monthly spending.
In this blog post we’re going to take a quick look at why saving in the short term could cost a lot in the long run.
Buying Big
Sometimes less is more…but often more is less. It makes sense to buy that bigger pack of laundry detergent because you end up get more tabs per penny spent, and so the same goes for spa chemicals.
Why buy a 1kg tub when you can make savings on 5? Well, that’s all well and good provided you’re buying hot tub specific chemicals.
A lot of bulk packs are designed for use with pools - the bigger volume of water, the more chemicals needed in a shorter amount of time…that means bigger boxes of chemicals. While it may be tempting to purchase these, they can cause irreversible damage to your hot tub’s seals, gaskets, pumps, piping, and shell.
Often pool chemicals come at a higher concentration than hot tub specific chemicals, or simply aren’t designed for them at all.
Always make sure the chemicals you buy for your hot tub or swim spa are home spa specific.
Hot Tub Chemicals Are Cheaper On Amazon…
In a lot of cases hot tub chemicals may be cheap on warehouse websites. However, with Amazon you don’t always know what you’re buying, or who you’re buying it from.
If an off-brand laptop charger ordered online cuts corners and overheats so much it can set fire to your couch, you can guarantee that somebody out there is making the lowest quality hot tub chemicals out there and selling them online.
Certain cheaper sanitisers contain bulking agents to make up the volume of the tubs you buy. You may have even seen this as a chalky, powdery build up around your spa’s waterline.
We recommend researching popular and reputable brands - or popping in-store where we can advise you on all your hot tub chemical needs. You have just made a hefty investment into a hot tub or swim spa, you don't want to ruin it by cutting corners on chemicals!
TLDR: Why Cheap Hot Tub Chemicals Will Cost You More
Don't let short-term savings ruin your luxury hot tub investment! Using the wrong spa chemicals—especially non-hot tub specific bulk products or unverified online brands—can lead to irreversible damage to your spa's shell, seals, and pumps.
Key Chemical Buying Advice:
-
Avoid Pool Chemicals: Pool chemicals often have higher concentrations and are not formulated for the specific seals and plumbing of a hot tub or swim spa. They can cause extensive, costly damage over time.
-
Beware of Cheap Online Brands: Unverified chemicals bought online may contain harmful bulking agents that leave a chalky residue, compromise your water quality, and damage components.
-
Invest in Quality: Always buy from reputable brands or consult with us in-store. Protect your investment by ensuring all hot tub maintenance products are specifically designed for home spas.
