What's In A Theme: BBQ Cabin Decor Ideas

From the obvious to the obscure, meander through more than 6 different styles for BBQ Cabin theming with us. Take inspiration from our ideas, and use this as a guide to achieve your cosy cabin goals. For each theme we have linked Pinterest boards we created to help aid your decorating journey.

Forest BBQ Cabin Theme

In keeping with the natural style of the cabins themselves, this Forest Theme is a great jumping off point. This theme can go in many different directions. Overall with this theme you would keep mostly wooden decor and bring the outside in by using dried flowers or greenery. Make sure everything you bring in is in the shade of a colour that could be found in nature. Greens, blues, or shades of berries and flowers. Neutral colours of beiges and browns would work well, as long as they are darker than the wood of the cabin or other wooden decor that is added. Stay away from highlighter neons and stark bright white.

If you want to go in a cutesy direction, bring in throws and pillows with woodland animal patterns for a Cute Forest Theme.

To give your cabin a grittier edge, consider hanging mounted taxidermy, and using dark colours and warm metals for a Dark Forest Theme.

If a simple woodland theme is not your style, pick a niche to explore such as Sleepaway Camp, American National Parks, or Fairy Tales. All of these niche themes can be layered over “the Forest” as woodlands are an integral element to all of them. Despite where you go in detail the overarching theme of "Forest" still fits the rustic vibes of a log cabin.

Fantasy BBQ Cabin Theme

This theme could also be close to the forest theme, and you could start there with design inspiration. Adding fantasy flair to your BBQ Cabin is easy, just pick out some themed decor pieces. Instead of having a pastiche of fantasy elements such as knights, dragons, fairies, and magical creatures you may want to pick just one or two. Knights and dragons could go together, just as well as fairies and unicorns. And sure, you could combine them all, but it is a small space, and you don’t want it to be tacky. Or maybe you do! Maximalism is in after all.

Fantasy Knight Theme: Create your own coat of arms for your family to hang in your BBQ Hut. Find some antiques that fit the theme to display such as swords or helms. If those prove to be too dear in cost, buy new and age them yourself. Add a silver platter or goblets to tie into the meat feasting in your BBQ Cabin. (Optionally add some tapestries featuring dragons or other beasts, maybe some prints or paintings of fair maidens).

Fantasy Fairy Theme: As a BBQ Cabin could be fit for the fae if you shrunk it down to size, it only seems right to theme it as fit for a fairy. Follow similar parameters to the Forest theme, adding more mushroom decor, dainty flower bunting, and mossy elements. Search for fairy statues and art work that reflects the theme. If you have a bar extension in your BBQ Cabin you can create faux potions using glitter and food colouring or coloured inks to set into your bar shelves. Get creative with it!

Fantasy Creatures Theme: Turn your BBQ Cabin into a creature gallery. Mount plush toys to wooden shields to give the effect of a magical hunting gallery. Unicorns, dragons, and maybe a jackalope? Get really creative and mould your own unicorn horns to use as decor. Use glitter or sequins to make jars of otherworldly creature scales. You could visit the Society of Alchemists and pick up some lovely accessories and scents to complete your space.

All of these themes under that Fantasy category appeal to childlike whimsy and wonder. When in doubt, the Hobbit and a BBQ Cabin go hand in hand. If you’re a Lord of the Rings Lover, our unique sloping walled cabins fit right into that world. Other literary fantasy can work just as well as a theme, Narnia and Game of Thrones is what comes to mind.

Tropical BBQ Cabin Theme

Get ready for a staycation paradise! These themes fit well if you are using your BBQ for parties. Create your tropical escape by incorporating tropical prints for soft furnishings, funky decor items like a brass monkey or flamingo neon sign, and tropical potted plants (fake or real). If you can, find a trailing plant that you can pin up around the ceiling or around beams if you have a bar extension. If you don’t want to water a real plant, opt for faux vines. Get the party started with a Tropical BBQ Cabin.

If you want to move to a more relaxed tropical vibe, add rattan and linen and skip bright tropical patterns and kitschy decor. Stick to objects that feel zen, possibly bringing in a water feature fountain, or mini-sand garden. This Tropical Zen style can be a great design option if your BBQ Cabin will be dual purpose for get togethers as well as calm alone time.

Speakeasy BBQ Theme

This may be a BBQ Cabin theme that takes the most searching to find the perfect accessories! The opposite to the bright tropical theme with plants and airy fabrics, is the lush dark bar theme of a Speakeasy. Pick a location and find artwork to match, Jazz posters from New Orleans or Parisian posters. You could also pick a central focus such as film, music, or theatre and run with that. Accessorise with dark opulent colours and velvet fabrics. Work in some leather to add texture. Try to find elaborate candelabras or other metal decor. If you have a bar extension, class up your alcohol collection by decanting into cut glass containers. If you can source a vintage radio or record player that could be a key piece of the design puzzle.

Man Cave / She Shed BBQ Cabin

If your BBQ Cabin focus will be on hosting friends and family, you may want to design it for those using it. The key here is to take whatever you are interested in and run with it. Love F1? Time for cars, cars, cars. If you are into craft beer, create an homage to that. Make your BBQ Cabin a certified Man Cave.

Have a love of gardening? Create an elevated potting shed vibe. Maybe you really love cats and reading- create a book nook the kitties can curl up in. Make your BBQ Cabin a dedicated She Shed.

If the BBQ Cabin will be a hub for all try and decorate around that. Take the interests of your group and make it the dream hang out spot for all involved. If you have a mixed company of hobbyists, theme around what you all do for fun, such as playing cards or board games. Take your group nights to the next level with your Game Room themed BBQ Cabin.

Scandi BBQ Cabin Theme

With the reindeer skins and accessories that come with every BBQ Cabin, you're ahead on the theme for this one. While you can follow the Forest theme ideas to start, bring in some Scandi charm with Hygge fabrics. Anything cosy will do. Scandi style usually uses neutral colours, sometimes with pops of bright colour in a few accessories (if you’re feeling modern). Make sure you have bookshelves for easy access to calming activity and handmade ceramics in your tea station! This theme is perfect for those who want a calm space for rest and relaxation.

In Conclusion

Overall the key to decorating your BBQ Cabin is to add a few points of design interest such as wall decorations (art, hangings, sculpture), one or two lights if you can, and soft furnishings in the form of blankets, pillows, and throw rugs. The BBQ Cabins are unique and beautiful already, so you don’t want to detract from the initial wow factor!
